Practice shots

Okay, guys… Now this post has been up for the past two days & my mom (a great blog visitor :) and I have noticed that the second picture isn’t always loading. I just re-loaded it under another name… Are all 21 images showing on your computer? If you have a sec, please let me know if they’re all there, or there’s still one missing. I’d hate to be posting image for YOU GUYS and then YOU not be able to see them! How pointless would that be?! :P Whatever feedback you have would be most appreciated! Thanks!

Meet some family favorites from a test session… starting with Belle!

Coolest Fundraiser coming up!

health_systems_artw.jpg

25+ of these babies will be all over the Lake Area in a few days.

So, this isn’t the first time I’ve done commercial work for billboards, but for some reason, I felt inclined to post & advertise a little more for my great new friend @ the Health Foundation, Mrs. Stephanie Morris!

The 2000 Health Foundation is hosting their annual Fundraiser, “Dancing with the Stars” in the huge L’Auberge Du Lac ballroom September 16th.  Stephanie said they go all out for this event… with red carpet, stars covering the floor, amazing decorations, and TONS of dancing!  There are several local & state wide “celebrities” that are supposed to be dancing at the gala.  I think it sounds sooo cool!  She said there will be several types of dancing, but primarily ballroom.  What a great excuse to get all dressed up & have a night out @ L’Auberge?!

So, if you’re free on the 16th of September and feel like watching some amazing dancing, grab a friend, get “dolled up”, & head over!  I got to watch Stephanie & Gray dance the day of the shoot & they’re pretty good…  wink wink  :)

Preparedness…

810ma-w.jpg

This is close to the worst thing any professional photographer wants to see.

Now that I’ve posted several images from Morgan & Achille’s amazing day, I can show you another reason it was quite exciting.

Although I have always been prepared the past 3 1/2 years, thankfully, nothing to this extent has ever happened during my professional career.  So what exactly happened, you ask?

I had just finished shooting all of the pre-ceremony shots & I was at the front of the Cathedral getting my equipment ready.  I was *talking* with someone about photography & mounting my camera & lens onto my tripod FIFTEEN minutes before Morgan walks down the aisle and wasn’t paying 100% attention to what I was doing.  (I have NEVER visited with someone at the front of the church, with 600+ people behind me, standing up prepping for the ceremony, about photography and this is the reason why!)

So, in mid-sentence, when I thought I had my lens locked, I let go of the camera.  In ultra-slow motion, the entire “rig” teeters backward, then forward, plumitting five feet to it’s death.  It landed in the worst possible angle- right on the egde of the lens.

The sound of my camera & lens hitting the marble floor from such a distance was enough to catch the attention of many of the guests.  To make matters worse, when I bent down to pick it up, the lady saw the lens first, making her gasp loud enough for even more of a show.  Now, looking back, I think it’s kind of funny how it all happened.  But at the time, it was what we photographers have nightmares about!  I “calmly” assessed the damage, turning everything on, focusing with the lens, etc.  The camera body itself was fine.  The lens, however, was another story.

*Thankfully, I had backup!*  I ALWAYS stress the importance of backup equipment to my clients.  What if I didn’t have any other lenses like the one that fell?  How else would I shoot what I had to shoot?  I had absolutely no time to go back to the studio, call anyone, or even run to the car!  Unlike a pre-wedding shoot or family session, it could not be post-poned or re-scheduled.  Regardless if you’re ready or not, the biggest day of this couple’s lives is about to occur and YOU are in charge of documenting it!

So what did I do?  I put my precious lens back in my bag and put on another lens.

I continued to document their wedding the rest of the night.  I even FORGOT that it even happened until I got home.  (I had sent Adam a text message with the news & he asked to see it that night.)

Morgan & Achille, as well as the rest of the bridal party & family, had absolutely no clue that anything ever happened.

Morgan & Achille

These two had an absolutely AWESOME wedding this past Saturday!  I have photographed the Cathedral more than any other church & I have NEVER seen it as packed as it was last Saturday night…. standing room only was just about all that was left of this massive church!  So, here are some of my favorites to share with you from our exciting night!

A little info:

Church:  Immaculate Conception Cathedral

Reception:  Brickhouse

Flowers:  Addy LeJeune

Cakes:  Marcel Walker

Catering:  Mrs. Francis (of Sulphur)

Entertainment:  Kevin with the big D.S.P.

One of my new favorite detail shots…!

The flowers were absolutely stunning!

The boys… striking quite a pose here, one that seemed to turn up countless times throughout the entire day… (The infamous “Tommy Tate”, maybe..?!)  :)

9675ma-w.jpg

The girls & their gorgeous dresses… chocolate & pink.

Morgan’s ring & bands were absolutely stunning!  (Although, I should have known whatever she was going to have would be perfect… her uncle owns Navarra’s!)

I have never seen so many baggets in such a gorgeous design!  (I hate to say it, but I was lucky enough to see the set awhile back before anyone else!  :P   Thanks, Morg! lol)

Achille was the perfect teary-eyed groom… it couldn’t have been sweeter.

Father Whitney Miller surprised the couple by reading their letters they wrote to each other in preparation for their big day.  He was reading the awesome things Achille wrote to Morgan, which neither of them thought would be read aloud… when he got to the part where Achille said something like, “You’re the most beautiful woman I know.  (You’re HOT!)  The entire audience of about 700 just totally cracked up… including the bride & groom!  I caught several cute ones, but I loved the families laughing in this one.

4955ma-w.jpg

Did I mention the flowers?!

Once again, after a quick group shot, this mysterious behavior began again!

9924ma-w.jpg

9962ma-w.jpg

Achille, the football player, had the COOLEST cake!  Notice the MSU detail on the field!

5056ma-w.jpg

Then again, I don’t think Morgan’s could get any better…. (Note the chandalier… they brought in a few to add even more cool lighting.)

9950ma-w.jpg

9951ma-w.jpg

I’ve never seen the Brick House as soft & gorgeous as it was decorated that night.

5095ma-w.jpg

Guys… you should have been there!  There were more single ladies (Phi Mu’s to be exact) than one man could handle!

5073ma-w.jpg

I always love this part of a soroity girl’s wedding… my Chi Omega mom has a shot similiar to this one taken “way back when.”  But, what made this shot different?  I have NEVER seen so many Phi Mu’s in one place!  The girls definately dominated the floor during this song.  I love the excitement & laughter in Morgan’s face.

5105ma-w.jpg

The Brick House was definately slammin’!  It felt like one huge college party!  And Kevin from Deep South definately had the jam to keep everyone on their feet the entire time!

Achille’s Mom & Dad. (Not above, but the picture below!)

248ma-web.jpg

Morgan, don’t hate me for posting this pic!  I just thought it was so cute and funny!  Another pose!

535ma-w.jpg

At one point, Morgan, Achille, and several others were on the stage after passing out cowbells, ringing them, dancing, & singing to the MSU football song.  (What’s the name of it again?!)  It was so fitting for such an MSU group… mostly made up of football players & cheerleaders.  I love the bridesmaid doing the cheer!

482ma-w.jpg

And we’ll end they’re night on these two of this crazy couple gettin down throughout the night.

Congrats, you two!  I hope you’re having an awesome time in the Bahamas!
